Public transit lobby gets new chief

He called the change to lead the Washington-based lobbying firm "an honor and a privilege.

“Public transportation is essential to our country’s prosperity and economic competitiveness," Melaniphy said in a statement.  "I will work with industry leaders and elected officials to expand public transportation so that quality travel choices are available and good, American jobs are created.”

APTA noted that Melaniphy once drove the team bus for the Indiana University basketball team when the team's head coach was the famous Bobby Knight.
