DC Metro to unveil new rail cars

Washington, D.C. Metrorail subway system is scheduled to unveil its newest rail cars on Monday, the Associated Press reports.

The cars, which have been dubbed the 7000 series, are scheduled to be used on the transit system’s new Silver Line and also to replace its oldest cars that were involved in a high-profile 2009 accident.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is scheduled to conduct a ceremonial first ride on one of the first new cars it has received on Monday, according to the report.

The rail cars will have to be tested for months before they are used for commercial passengers.
