Nearly 20,000 flights have been delayed this week by cold weather than has descended upon more than half of the country.
Airlines have delayed 19,140 flights and canceled 10,964 others, according to FlightAware.com.
Temperatures dropped into the single digits in major cities on the East Coast, and the Midwest say temperatures below zero on Monday night as part of a weather pattern meteorologists have dubbed a “polar vortex.”
Airlines have struggled to maintain regular operations amid the cold weather, leaving passengers stranded at airports across the country.
