Amtrak's Adirondack trains run from New York City to Montreal, and the Ethan Allen Express runs from Rutland to New York with a stop in Albany.
Schumer said the routes were already popular, and he added that they could attract more riders if passengers could bring their bikes with them.
“Folks already come from all over New York and the East Coast to visit the miles of scenic bike trails along Lake Placid, Lake Champlain and throughout the Adirondacks and North Country —now we have the opportunity to boost bicycle tourism further by getting bikes on board our Amtrak trains,” the New York lawmaker said.
Schumer's office noted that Amtrak allows bikes on trains that run from Boston to Maine, New York to Charlotte and on some routes in California.
