Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.): “On my deck at home. It overlooks the Great Lakes.” [For Stupak, this would be Lake Michigan.]
Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.): “In the winter I like to just sit before a fireplace, and I have a fireplace in my house.”
Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.): “I go to Puerto Rico. My wife and I have a house there. The one [other] place where I can leave everything behind is on a golf course. It’s amazing therapy.”
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.): “I have a place in Portsmouth, R.I. It’s in the country. It’s quiet. During the warmer months, I like sailing. I represent the Ocean State, so I don’t have to go very far to do that.”
Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.): “I like to take walks with my wife. The Santa Monica Mountains are beautiful. Sometimes we even synchronize our iPods so we’re listening to the same music.”
Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.): “Where do I go? My hometown of Snowflake, Ariz. [Or] a good game of pickup basketball or a long run out in the desert.”
Rep. John Duncan Jr. (R-Tenn.): “I don’t have any big resort that I go to. The time I get away from it the best is when I play with my grandkids. I have four grandkids under age 4.”
Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.): “Two places. On the third floor of [the Capitol] is a small sanctuary. There are [also] two sitting rooms right off the House gym that I like to disappear to.”
Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-Ohio): “I’m very fond of beaches wherever, and it doesn’t matter where the beaches are.”
Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.): “I like to go to movies with the kids.”
Rep. John Peterson (R-Pa.): “I’m an avid gardener. I planted 3,000 tulips this fall. To be honest, I didn’t get them all planted, so I planted 550 this January. I’m a physical guy. I’m not a leisure guy.”
Rep. Bill Sali (R-Idaho): “I don’t know; I haven’t had the opportunity yet. For Christmas break I went home, and I met these people. They’re called my family.”
Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.): “Hunt. Given the slightest invitation or opportunity, believe me, I will go.”
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.): “My tree stand. I’m a bow-hunter.”
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas): “Home to beautiful Houston. Houston is a people town, so there’s nothing more relaxing than spending time with close friends and supportive constituents, and you can do that in Houston.”
Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.): “I go into the high country in Yosemite National Park [to] backpack. Fortunately, my kids or grandkids go with me.”
