Position: Policy Research Associate
Reports to: Policy & Advocacy Manager

Summary
The Policy Research Associate is responsible for contributing research, writing, and analytical thinking to several key aspects of the Policy Team’s work that advance NCLD’s policy agenda.

Essential Functions*
• Assist the Policy team in developing and maintaining expert, up-to-the-minute knowledge of the relevant policy and political issues involved in advancing NCLD’s policy agenda at the federal and state level.
• Discover, research, analyze and write about federal and state legislation, regulations, and guidance impacting individuals with learning difficulties, disabilities or attention issues. Make recommendations about possible NCLD strategy and actions regarding relevant legislation, regulations and guidance.
• Prepare written reports, memos, letters, emails, opinion editorials, speeches and PowerPoint presentations to persuade and inform both policy makers and NCLD’s advocacy community.
• Manage tracking of and reporting on program goals and accomplishments, including creating materials for internal reporting.
• Collaborate with NCLD’s Policy, Content, and Communications teams to develop ideas and parent-friendly web content about policy and advocacy issues. Participate in planning and implementing communications and marketing efforts related to Public Policy and Advocacy including, but not limited to, blog, Facebook and twitter posts, emails and action alerts.

External Relations:

• Work with NCLD’s Policy team to coordinate communication and manage “Hill Day” events, briefings, and other events to support NCLD’s policy agenda.

Qualifications
Excellent research, writing and analytical skills
Desire to advocate for at-risk preschoolers, children, adolescents and adults with learning difficulties, disabilities, and attention issues
Knowledge of education and disability policy issues (understanding of learning disabilities preferred)
Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
Ability to work as part of team, but complete independent work as necessary
Minimum 4 year college degree; prefer Masters in Public Policy, Administration or Law Degree
Minimum 1-3 years federal policy experience
