The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Director, International Trade in its Regulatory and Technical Affairs Division.  ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for serving as an advocate and technical resource for the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) trade advocacy initiatives.  The position is responsible for supporting ACC’s international trade advocacy, including managing the substance of ACC’s advocacy related to trade policy and negotiations, trade remedies, and trade-related policy programs.  The position reports directly to the Vice President, Regulatory & Technical Affairs.

Other responsibilities include developing, managing and sustaining relationships with the appropriate offices in the U.S. government, including the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and the Departments of State and Commerce; preparing technical and policy materials to support ACC’s advocacy goals and objectives; supporting ACC’s engagement in the International Council of Chemical Associations, and in particular ICCA’s International Trade Network; representing ACC before a broad range of outside stakeholders; and supporting ACC’s global advocacy.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years’ experience in international trade advocacy or policy development. A demonstrated working knowledge of federal, state and international trade policy issues; strong written and oral communications skills, including an ability to give both internal and external presentations; the ability to cultivate and manage high quality stakeholder relationships, including the development and maintenance of high-quality relationships with federal and state agency personnel and a sound understanding of cross-cultural diplomacy and an ability to tailor ACC’s advocacy to the needs of different audiences and stakeholders are a must.
