Communications & Public Affairs Manager

Position Overview: The Regional Airline Association (RAA) seeks a motivated and collaborative Public Affairs & Communications professional in Washington, DC with strong issue advocacy, writing, and project management skills.
The primary responsibility is developing and executing a strategic communications plan that ensures the benefits of regional airlines are well understood and supported by policymakers. Additional duties include media relations, communications, marketing and branding, producing and distributing newsletters and infographics, developing convention content and managing convention media engagement and coverage. The position is also responsible for updating and managing RAA’s website and social media platforms.

Essential Functions of the Position Include:
• Provide persuasive information about the Association, its members, and its policy priorities to stakeholders directly or through media engagement.

• Using a collaborative process, produce press statements, op-eds, talking points, issue briefings, infographics, testimony, and white papers.

• Serve as primary liaison with the press – respond to and triage inquiries, assist with responses, monitor stories, and provide guidance on corrections/retractions/responses, all with meticulous follow up.

• Cultivate strong relationships with media (aviation trades, national media, bloggers, etc.) and engage with Hill press offices and counterparts at other aviation associations.

• Manage messaging on significant announcements, events, and milestones – must be able to identify such events and produce concise associated statements quickly and accurately.

• Establish positive messaging across multiple platforms – traditional and new media, social media, RAA's magazine, e-news, website.

• Incorporate visual components of PR communication, including use of graphic design tools to convey information effectively through digital channels.

• Organize and support press conferences at the RAA annual convention and as needed.

• Serve as editor-in-chief of RAA’s various publications and newsletters, write / manage content for the RAA Convention mobile app, manage RAA’s website content.

• Manage freelancers, design firm, advertising and other contractors for RAA convention coverage and annual report.

• Develop a strong crisis communications protocol.

Qualifications for the Position Include:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field or bachelor’s degree in other field plus relevant work experience.

• Five years or more in communications; aviation issue familiarity a plus, Capitol Hill or trade association experience strongly preferred.

• Experience with graphic design tools such as InDesign, Canva, or Piktochart preferred.

• Existing relationships with aviation and policy beat reporters / editors beneficial.

• Willingness to travel.
