Chief Opinion Editor

The Hill is seeking an experienced senior Opinion Editor to help build and manage a growing team of editors who product top-flight Op-Ed content for TheHill.com across a wide range of topics. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and dynamic news chops. This person needs to be good at hiring and managing and getting the best out of her or his direct reports.This person needs to be equally capable of responding to the news and thinking beyond it, to topics that will be as interesting and provocative as the major headlines of the day.The ideal candidate will be able and willing to meet aggressive traffic goals, work creatively within a budget and work with dedication to support the business model of The Hill’s Opinion Section. The ideal candidate will guide other editors in developing networks of contributors and commentators on politics, policy and the issues that drive the conversation in Washington. Social Media Curator

The Hill is seeking a social media curator with strong writing skills and an unbridled enthusiasm for political journalism. The successful applicant will have journalism experience and will be well versed in the features and advantages of all mainstream social media platforms.Responsibilities include writing posts/tweets for Facebook and Twitter, editing headlines, choosing art for stories, tracking social media measurements, suggesting ways to enhance The Hill's social presence, and continuous monitoring of all platforms.The applicant will also be called upon to write stories about breaking news and political topics trending on social media, as well as complement the packaging of existing stories with visuals or other social media enhancements.Successful candidates must write superior headlines, have sharp news judgment, be a strong multitakster, make good decisions quickly, and execute ideas against high-pressure deadlines. The best candidates will be news junkies who closely follow breaking news and political trends on social media.Strong written communication skills are required, with an emphasis on grammar/spelling excellence.NOTE: Prior experience at a *news organization* is a MUST. Videographer

The Hill, a leading congressional publication and website, seeks to hire a videographer. This job would involve live streaming, editing raw video for webcasting, and spending many hours each day identifying, downloading and sometimes re-editing political video from websites all over the Internet.The ideal candidate will be multi-media savvy, technically proficient, have strong writing skills and willing to work hard, including frequent weekends.  The ability to write SEO headlines to drive web traffic is also a must.Must be proficient in Final Cut. This job is likely to suit multi-media journalists with considerable college and/or university level experience, plus some in the professional world, and who want to make jump into a news career.
