DTlogofinal.jpgThe Diesel Technology Forum is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting clean diesel technologies by educating audiences about the continuous improvements in fuel efficiency and power, and the environmental progress of clean diesel systems.  Forum members include engine and vehicle manufacturers, diesel fuel refiners, and manufacturers of emissions control devices.

Today’s Alternative Energy: Clean Diesel Technology

The United States faces mounting energy and environmental concerns in the midst of growing economic uncertainties. Commercializing new technologies will take time and money, bringing added value to those which can bring immediate, cost-effective solutions.  Conserving energy through the use of more fuel efficient technologies cannot wait decades.  From new clean diesel cars to big-rig trucks and off-road construction and farm equipment, a new generation of clean diesel technology is in place, using a combination of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel; advanced, fuel efficient diesel engines; and highly effective emissions controls.  Clean diesel technology is an alternative energy source that can play a leading role in addressing these challenges.

Americans have grown increasingly concerned about U.S. dependence on oil imports and greenhouse gas emissions in recent years, resulting in greater interest in fuels like biodiesel and ethanol that can be produced from domestic feedstocks rather than petroleum. The first diesel engine ran on peanut oil, and today there is renewed interest in alternatives to pure petroleum-derived diesel fuel.

Diesel power is cleaner and more vital to the U.S. economy than ever before. The diesel industry is on a path to produce virtually emissions-free vehicles and equipment while still retaining the efficiency, reliability and power long associated with diesel. Energy Efficiency, Energy Independence & Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions: The Role of Diesel

Technologies and actions which promote energy efficiency, energy independence and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions are increasingly attractive to national, state and local policymakers. Although diesel power, like other fossil fuel-based technologies, contributes to GHG emissions, its 20-40 percent greater efficiency also offers a viable and readily available strategy to help reduce these same emissions and the amount of fossil fuels used in the transportation sector.
