Medical Care Reform Requires Public Health Reform
|
|
Many policymakers assume that individual, patient-based medical care is the best way to improve health. However, the underlying determinants of our collective health – the economic, social, and physical environments – have a greater bearing on health than does direct medical care. Thus, true health reform must address these underlying drivers of poor health. The authors recommend that Congress take a number of actions to strengthen the nation’s state and local public health system. |
