Elegant eats at Co Co. Sala

If you missed the Kentucky Derby last week and want to recreate your own, Co Co. Sala on F Street’s “Chocolate and Bubbles” happy hour will make you want to don a huge hat and take a jaunt downtown.

Refresh yourself with a BB Julep — a twist on the traditional Southern mint julep, this concoction is made with blackberries, fresh mint and limes and Evan Williams Honey Bourbon. Go a little sweeter with the Co cojito, a chocolate-infused vodka mixed with fresh mint and limes and dark

chocolate flakes that are so good it’s hard not to pick out every one by hand.

There’s also an adult version of the malts guzzled by teens in the ’50s, made with Svedka vanilla vodka, Bailey’s liquer and malted chocolate. Trying to win the heart of a love interest? The Fetish might just do the trick. It’s served with fresh strawberries, chocolate-infused vodka, strawberry foam and, of course, a chocolate-dipped strawberry. It’s as decadent as it sounds.

Start savory with one of 10 options available to pair with your cocktail. The lobster crostini, served with sherry, herbs and bocconcini mozzarella, is sleek and elegant, much like the restaurant’s design. Also noteworthy is the artichoke tart, with creamy artichoke hearts and warm tomato confit.

If you’re patient enough to last through the savory dishes, Co Co. Sala’s sweet options are simply sinful. The Some More Crème Brûlée is a chocolate crème brûlée with toasted marshmallow and a graham cracker crumble, making the preparation look like an adult version of the campfire favorite s’mores. The Onyx, with dark chocolate mousse, vanilla crème brûlée, salted caramel, crispy chocolate pearls and a brownie, is an exercise in utter indulgence.

Before you leave Co Co. Sala, stop by the gift shop, which sells truffles such as Earl Grey and milk chocolate or champagne and dark chocolate.

The happy hour specials run from 4 to 7 p.m., and the restaurant offers an extensive brunch with sweet cocktails and plenty of entrees to match.

In short, Co Co. Sala is just the right place to stop in with a bunch of friends after a long day at work, some pre-theater noshing or post-girls’ night cravings with all your favorite ladies.
