•White House: President George Bush promoted Anita B. McBride to be assistant to the president and chief of staff to the first lady. Since January 2005, McBride has served as deputy assistant to the president and chief of staff to the first lady.
•Department of Education: President Bush intends to nominate Lauren M. Maddox to be assistant secretary of education (Communications and Outreach). Maddox currently works as a principal at PodestaMattoon. She also served as the communications director in the House Republican Conference.
•Small Business Administration: Jovita Carranza is the president’s choice for deputy administrator of the Small Business Administration. Carranza most recently worked as vice president of air operations for the United Parcel Service.
•Department of State: President Bush intends to nominate Donald Y. Yamamoto to be ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Ambassador Yamamoto, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, currently serves as deputy assistant secretary of state in the Bureau of African Affairs at the Department of State.
The president intends to nominate Frank Baxter to be ambassador to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. Baxter served as chairman and chief executive officer of Jeffries and Company, an investment-banking firm.
•International Trade Commission: Dean A. Pinkert is the president’s choice to be commissioner of the United States International Trade Commission for a nine-year term beginning December 17, 2006. Pinkert currently serves as a senior attorney at the Department of Commerce. Irving A. Williamson also is the president’s choice to be commissioner of the United States International Trade Commission for the remainder of a nine-year term expiring June 16, 2014. Williamson is currently President at Williamson International Trade Strategies.
•Equal Employment Opportunity Commission: President Bush intends to designate Leslie Silverman to be vice chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
•Department of Defense: Maj. Gen. Sean J. Byrne has been named commanding general of the Army Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Va. |
