Clinton: Civilians working in Afghanistan ‘will not be intimidated’ by attacks

By Geneva Sands - 09/13/11 03:12 PM ET

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said a number of Afghan civilians were hurt in the Tuesday attacks at the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, but no embassy personnel were reported to have been killed.

She told reporters that the civilians working in Afghanistan "will not be intimidated" by these attacks and said the U.S. will continue with a "greater commitment" in the country during a press briefing Tuesday posted on CBS News Online.

"We will take all necessary steps, not only to ensure the safety of our people, but to secure the area and to make sure that those who perpetrated this attack are dealt with," said Clinton.

She praised civilians working at the embassy, saying that they are there for the "sole purpose of assisting the people of Afghanistan in a transition toward stability, security and property."
