President Obama elicited cheers for himself and loud boos for congressional Republicans when he spoke to an energized crowd Wednesday in Scranton, Pa.
He received nearly 15 seconds of applause when he said his American Jobs Act is “paid for by asking out wealthiest citizens to pay their fair share.”
The audience remained in high spirits throughout the nearly 20 minutes, with one participant shouting, “thank you, Mr. President” and others shouting “that’s right” when Obama asked whether Republicans are opposing extending tax cuts just because he proposed it.
Wednesday’s event contrasted sharply with a similar speech Obama gave in New Hampshire last week when he was heckled by protesters using a “human mic,” a tactic that's become strongly associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement.
