First dog Bo recreated for White House holiday decorations

By Geneva Sands - 11/30/11 04:50 PM ET

Holiday decorations at the White House are much more elaborate than just a tree and lights. This year, they will include renderings of one very famous canine.

Designers have created five replicas of the First Dog Bo in a variety of unconventional materials.

In a web video released by the White House, floral designer Heather Cooper talks through the process of creating "Button Bo," the smallest recreation. The faux dog is made of wire and tape completely surrounded by hand-glued buttons, beads and a few sequins.

"We have so many Bos this year in all different kinds and shapes," said Cooper.

There is also trash bag Bo, marshmallow and liquorice Bo and pom-pom Bo. The largest Bo, coming in at four and a half feet tall, is made with felt.

The real Bo, a Portuguese water dog, first arrived at the White House to great anticipation in April 2009.
