Jill Biden says her husband would be ‘a great president’

By Daniel Strauss - 12/14/11 12:14 PM ET

Vice President Biden would be a great president if he decided to run in 2016, said his wife, Dr. Jill Biden.

I think he’d be a great president, and his priorities are my priorities, and the one reason I encouraged him to run last time was to get [U.S. troops] out of Iraq, and that meant so much to me having a son who was deployed, and now my dream has come true, Biden said in an interview with iVillage published Tuesday night.

The vice president has repeatedly refused to close the door on a presidential run in 2016. Earlier this month, in an interview with NBC’s Today, Biden said he wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

I am never ready to close the door on anything, Biden said at the time. I am intent on reelecting Barack Obama president of the United States. The rest will take care of itself.

Those comments by the vice president are similar to ones he made in an earlier interview with CNN. In that interview, Biden also said that, while his focus is on reelecting Obama, he wouldn’t close the door to a 2016 run.
