President Obama taped a video birthday greeting for actress Betty
White earlier this year in which he asks her to reveal her long-form
birth certificate.
In the video played on NBC’s “A Tribute to America’s Golden Girl”
earlier this week, Obama appears at his desk in the Oval Office
penning a birthday greeting to White that he reads in a voice-over:
"Dear Betty. You look so fantastic and full of energy, I can't believe
you're 90 years old. In fact, I don't believe it. That's why I'm
writing to ask if you will be willing to produce a copy of your
long-form birth certificate."
Obama produced his own long-form birth certificate, which proved his
birth in Hawaii, last April in an effort to silence persistent accusations
that he wasn't born in the United States.
The theme song of White’s best-known TV series, “Golden Girls” then plays in the video, and the president plugs in ear buds
and starts bopping his head along to the song, “Thank you for being a
friend.”
“A Tribute to America’s Golden Girl,” a celebration of White’s 90th
birthday, was taped in early January and aired on Monday night.
