Obama awards National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal

President Obama, joined by first lady Michelle Obama, presented awards to the winners of the 2011 National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal at the White House.

Medal of Arts recipients included actor Al Pacino, sculptor Martin Puryear and country musician Mel Tillis.

Authors Kwame Anthony Appiah, John Ashbery and Robert Darnton are a few of Monday's individual Humanities Medal winners.
