Obama's Valentine's Day PSA: Gentlemen, 'do not forget'

By Geneva Sands - 02/14/12 01:20 PM ET

President Obama issued a "public service announcement" for the romantically challenged Tuesday.

"Let me start with a quick public service announcement for all the gentlemen out there. Today is Valentine's Day. Do not forget," said Obama at the White House Tuesday during a speech.

Obama said he was speaking "from experience" in reminding the audience about today's celebration of love. "It is important that you remember this," he added.

The president imparted one last piece of lighthearted advice to the crowd — "go big."

Obama was speaking at an event aimed at pressuring Congress to pass the payroll tax cut extension through the end of the year. He was joined by people who had told the White House what the tax cut meant to them.

"The last thing we need is for Washington to stand in our way,” Obama said during the event. "And first and foremost that means Washington shouldn’t hike taxes on working Americans right now."
