Hoop dreams: Arne Duncan shows off skills at NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

By Adele Hampton - 02/27/12 04:33 PM ET

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan schooled his opponents during the Feb. 24 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, scoring 17 points and leading the East to a resounding 86-54 victory.

It was East against West last Friday as Duncan, who played ball for Harvard from 1987 to 1991, went on to grab five rebounds in the first half and two more in the second before East coach Dwight Howard gave him a rest. Duncan continued to be a vocal part of the game, directing teammates on where to line up for free throws from the bench.

Duncan showed he hasn't forgotten his days on the court by having one of the best performances of the night. Highlights included a spinning, over the shoulder pass to rapper J. Cole, who went on to miss the layup, and a sleek assist to WNBA MVP Tamika Catchings to start off the game.

Duncan used his moment in the spotlight to raise awareness over increasing high-school dropout rates.
