First lady exchanges prom pictures with DeGeneres

By Adele Hampton - 04/16/12 12:08 PM ET

First lady Michelle Obama swapped embarrassing prom photos with Ellen DeGeneres Monday during a taping of the "Ellen DeGeneres Show."

Obama appeared on the show, airing Monday afternoon via videocam with a group of teenage girls from military families. And after rehashing their meeting last month when Obama beat the TV host in a pushup contest, DeGeneres decided it was time for prom picture payback.

"Now, Mrs. Obama, I don’t think I've ever shown you my prom picture," DeGeneres said. "I just wanted to — I want to show you my prom picture first."

"That is an excellent picture," Obama said sarcastically. "Love the dress. Love the dress."

"Now, I heard you have a good one too, so I thought I would share yours," DeGeneres said.

Degeneres then put up a picture of a teenage Obama sitting in a large wicker chair and wearing a metallic gold dress complete with quite the side-slit. But as far as embarrassing prom photos go, it was nothing compared to Degeneres's "table cloth" look.

"That split was a little high. I don’t know if I'd let my kids go out with a split that high, so let's not show this to Malia and Sasha," Obama said.

"All right. Were you shopping at Pier One or something," Degeneres joked about the massive chair Obama was sitting in, posed next to her mustachioed date.

"You've never done the wicker chair shot?" Obama answered. "That’s standard."

"No, I've seen the wicker chairs before but — I didn’t know it was standard," DeGeneres laughed back.
