Obama, Biden take public oaths of office

During the 57th presidential inauguration, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor administered the oath of office to Biden, followed by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts giving the oath to the president.

The vice president and president were officially sworn in on Sunday, Jan. 20, as is constitutionally mandated.

Later today, the president will participate in a luncheon on Capitol Hill, as well as the inaugural parade. In the evening, Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will attend the Commander-in-Chief’s Ball and the official inaugural ball at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
