Carney: White House 'welcomes' House GOP debt-limit vote

White House press secretary Jay Carney on Tuesday said the House GOP’s decision to vote on legislation raising the debt ceiling is “certainly something we welcome.”

Carney said President Obama “welcomes” the decision and “would not stand in the way of the bill becoming law.”

The House is expected to vote Wednesday on the bill, which would allow the government to make payments on its obligations until May 19.
