The interview was taped last Monday but did not air until Wednesday because of the Boston Marathon bombing. The president was also asked about his dancing ability, acknowledging that he may have performed the fad "Gangnam Style" dance around his second inauguration.

"Fortunately we destroyed the tapes," Obama joked, adding that the first lady often tells him that she is better on the dance floor.

"She consistently maintains and I don't argue with her that she's a better dancer," Obama said.

Obama also responded to a recent interview in which the first lady accidentally referred to herself as a single mother.

“You know, as somebody who has stumbled over my lines many times, I tend to cut my wife or anybody some slack when it comes to just a slip to the tongue,” the president said. “But there’s no doubt that there’ve been times where Michelle probably felt like a single mom.”

But, the president added, his wife's support during his political career emphasized to him the difficult role women have in society.

"I know that before we got here, when I was running for the U.S. Senate, when I was running for president, there were times where I wouldn't see her for a week," Obama said. "And she was still working and having to look after the girls. She definitely, I think, understands the burden that women in particular tend to feel if they're both responsible for child rearing and responsible for working at the same time."
