Sen. Cornyn won't make endorsement in GOP primary race

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said he won't endorse Texas Gov. Rick Perry — or anyone else in the Republican primary, for that matter.

"I'm not going to endorse anybody in the Republican primary," Cornyn said in an interview with ABC's "Top Line," taped Wednesday. "I will enthusiastically support the nominee because it's important for the country."

An endorsement from Cornyn, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, would be a coup for any candidate. Perry has already received a number of endorsements from the Texas congressional delegation, including Reps. John Carter, Mike Conaway, John Culberson, Michael McCaul and Pete Sessions.

On Wednesday, Perry announced that he had won the endorsement of Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R).
