Herman Cain took a shot at explaining his unconventional campaign on Monday.
The comments came at the end of an event focused on the presidential contender's economic plans at the American Enterprise Institute.
"By the way folks — yes, I am an unconventional candidate and yes, I do have a sense of humor. Some people have a problem of that, but to quote my chief of staff and all the people that I talk to around this country, 'Herman be Herman' and Herman is going to stay Herman. Thank you very much," Cain said.
Cain's campaign has been under intense scrutiny since publication Sunday of an article by Politico that said two women left the National Restaurant Association after complaining of sexually inappropriate behavior by Cain. The report said the two women received financial settlements to leave the trade group, and that as a part of those deals they agreed not to discuss their complaints.
The former Godfather's Pizza CEO, who headed the association from 1996 to 1999, didn't take questions on the story at the AEI event, but later said he had been falsely accused.
“I have never sexually harassed anyone, let's say that,” Cain said Monday in an interview with Fox News.
“Secondly, yes, I was falsely accused while I was at the National Restaurant Association, and I say falsely because it turns out after the investigation [the charges] were found to be baseless,” Cain said.
