Pro-Cain ad fuels ‘high-tech lynching’ rhetoric

By Geneva Sands - 11/04/11 10:27 AM ET

A Herman Cain-affiliated super-PAC released a blistering ad that argues Cain is the victim of a "high tech lynching" by the left and the media.

The pro-Cain political action committee Americans for Herman Cain posted the video titled "High Tech Lynching" Thursday, linking the current sexual harassment allegations against Cain to charges faced by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearing.

The video features a montage of news clips in support of Cain, as well as prominent black leaders criticizing him. It ends with a clip of Thomas's confirmation hearing in which he spoke of the "high tech lynching" being carried out against him.

"Don't let the Left do to Herman Cain what they did to Clarence Thomas," says the tagline with the ad.

Thomas was accused of sexual misconduct by Anita Hill during his confirmation process in the early 1990s.

The group sent out a racially charged email to supporters Monday, saying opponents are looking to "take down any black man who stands up for conservative values."

Cain himself drew parallels between his situation and that of Thomas earlier this week.

"There seems to be some similarities. ... Probably so," Cain said in an interview with The Hill Monday. "The only question would be, how long are people going to drag this baseless, false accusation out? I can’t determine that."

Cain's campaign has been embroiled in controversy since reports surfaced Sunday that Cain sexually harassed two women during his time as president of the National Restaurant Association.
