Republican presidential contender Herman Cain became emotional while speaking about his wife during an interview Thursday.
"I almost can't say it … holding the bible," he said, as he choked up discussing what his wife's role would be during inauguration.
Later in the interview Cain told WMUR New Hampshire that the rigors and scrutiny of the campaign have been personally tough on the people around him.
"If I ever reached a point where this campaign became damaging to my family, to my wife, to my family, I'm not a quitter, but there is a point beyond which you will not go," Cain said.
Cain's campaign has been mired in controversy since reports of sexual harassment allegations against him surfaced late last month.
Cain has said repeatedly that he has never acted inappropriately toward anyone.
His wife, Gloria Cain, defended her husband earlier this week against sexual harassment allegations made by former employees in her first televised interview.
"I'm thinking he would have to have a split personality to do the things that were said," Gloria Cain said according to media reports in an interview which will air Monday on Fox News' "On the Record."
