Cornyn, the well-funded Senate GOP whip, is facing a surprise challenge from Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas), who's hoping to corral Tea Party support against the incumbent.
Cornyn has a huge cash advantage for the race — he had more than $7 million in the bank at the end of September — and is beginning to use it to buy airtime in the Lone Star State's expensive media markets. He is viewed as the prohibitive front-runner against the sparsely funded Stockman, who has won little support from either local or national conservative groups.
