Presidential candidate Herman Cain on Monday pre-empted the accusation of an affair by denying the allegation before the woman went public.
He went on CNN in the early evening to announce that "an acquaintance who I thought was a friend" was poised to come forward with "another accusation that I had an affair," but categorically denied ever having a sexual relationship with the woman.
In going on the cable news network, he beat the woman to the story, denying it took place before she could make the accusation.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Ginger White, an Atlanta businesswoman, said she and Cain were involved in a 13-year-long affair.
“It was pretty simple,” White said. “It wasn't complicated. I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship.”
Cain said that while he has known White for more than a decade, they never had an affair. Asked repeatedly by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer whether he had any romantic relationship with the woman or if she would be able to produce evidence of a relationship, Cain repeatedly answered "no."
