New DNC video attacks Romney for 'disastrous interview'

By Joshua Altman - 11/30/11 03:25 PM ET

The Democratic National Committee launched a new attack ad on Mitt Romney on Wednesday, mocking his recent interview with Fox News as “disastrous” and featuring cable news commentators bashing the GOP presidential hopeful.

The two and a half minute Web video focuses on commentators attacking Romney for allegedly changing his positions on issues for political reasons, a common criticism from Democrats as well as Republican rivals. The ad also features segments from Romney’s Tuesday interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, who challenged Romney over claims he has altered his positions on controversial issues.

During the interview with Baier, Romney took issue with claims that he has flip-flopped to win voters. Romney pointed to his continued support for the Massachusetts healthcare reforms he instituted when he was governor as proof that he was not running away from controversial positions.

He said healthcare was “by far the biggest challenge I have in the primary race.”

“If I were willing to say anything to get elected, wouldn't I just say, oh, it was a mistake?” asked Romney.

The new Web video is not the first Democratic ad attacking the Republican front-runner. Earlier this week, the DNC released an ad attacking Romney for flip-flops, and a Web video criticizing his first television in New Hampshire, which Democrats claim used a 2008 campaign quote from President Obama out of context.
