In new ad, Newt Gingrich claims he can create ‘millions of jobs right now’

By Jonathan Easley - 12/28/11 03:05 PM ET

A new ad for GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says he has a plan to create “millions of jobs right now."

“If you think high unemployment is the new normal, just say baloney,” Gingrich says in the Web video, which was posted Wednesday. “We can create millions of jobs right now.”

Gingrich says he would accomplish this by repealing laws that raise taxes, cutting taxes that “strangle businesses” and “unleashing the power of our energy industry.”

Gingrich also referenced his endorsement by economist Arthur Laffer, which he picked up on Tuesday.

“Endorsed by the architect of Reagan’s economic plan,” the ad reads.

It’s a positive ad in which Gingrich continues to steer away from the negative campaigning that his rivals have used against him.

According to the latest Public Policy Poll, the former House Speaker has fallen into the second tier of candidates in Iowa.

Gingrich, who led the field at 27 percent only one month ago, is now in third place with 13 percent, just ahead of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who came in at 11 percent.
