Romney makes first Florida ad buy

By Justin Sink - 01/03/12 03:01 PM ET

Mitt Romney announced Tuesday that he will begin airing television ads in Florida, a signal that the former Massachusetts governor is ready to flex his financial muscle in an attempt to lock up the GOP presidential nomination early.

The ad, which has already aired in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, features clips of Romney at Republican debates extolling his leadership credentials.

“I think people understand that I’m a man of steadiness and constancy," Romney said. "I don’t think you’re going to find somebody who has more of those attributes than I do."

The ad goes on to extol Romney's personal life and criticize President Obama.

“If I’m president of the United States, I will be true to my family, to my faith and to our country, and I will never apologize for the United States of America," Romney says.

The ad buy is for at least $770,000, according to reports.

A poll released Friday of the Sunshine State found Romney essentially tied with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Romney earned 27 percent of the vote to Gingrich's 26 percent, according to Tel Opinion.
