Ron Paul's campaign called for the removal of a Web ad produced by a pro-Paul organization that suggested that Jon Huntsman was a Manchurian candidate working for the Chinese after the former Utah governor denounced it as "stupid."
"The ad is disgusting," Benton told The Salt Lake Tribune. "Mr. Huntsman is a good family man just like Dr. Paul. Whoever put it up should remove it immediately."
Huntsman was asked about the ad, which questions his service as ambassador to China, fluency in Mandarin, and adopted Chinese daughter, while meeting with college students in Concord Friday. Clips of Huntsman speaking Mandarin and interacting with Chinese press are spliced between questions asking whether the former Utah governor has "American values, or Chinese?" and a doctored photo of Huntsman in a Maoist military uniform appears.
"It's just stupid," Huntsman said, according to CNN.
"If the group is in any way affiliated with his organization of course he should [disavow the ad]," Huntsman added. "It's just political campaign nonsense. It happens from time to time."
