Ron Paul became the latest presidential candidate to be "glitter bombed" after being confronted by protesters following a rally in Minneapolis on Tuesday.
The Texas congressman was showered by a member of the "Giltterati," a gay rights group that has actively protested at GOP events during the presidential campaign. According to the Huffington Post, protester "Charlie McAwesome" yelled that "housing and healthcare are human rights, not privileges" as he doused the congressman in the glitter.
That message deviated from the traditional argument of the pro-gay rights group, although recent protests have shown the "Giltterati" taking an expand platform in their protests.
Last week, Republican frontrunner
Mitt Romney was glitter bombed by an individual protesting his stance on immigration. Romney downplayed the incident, which occurred just as he was walking on stage.
"Hey listen, you guys, I'm delighted to be here with you, this is an exciting time, I'm happy for the celebration. This is confetti! We just won Florida!" Romney said.
"Oh, I've got glitter in my hair. That's not all that's in my hair, I'll tell you that. I glue it on every morning, whether I need to or not," Romney continued.
Newt Gingrich was also heckled by gay rights supporters Monday while giving his stump speech at a campaign stop in Minnesota.
"Hey Newt, why do you support discrimination against gays and lesbians all the time? Serial hypocrisy!" a protester yelled, prompting boos and jeers from the crowd.
While that incident involved no glitter, Gingrich was doused during a prior campaign stop at the Mall of America in Minneapolis.
Other leading GOP candidates including Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann have been similarly glitter bombed.
