Fresh off his three-state victory, Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum on Wednesday said rival Mitt Romney is too closely aligned with President Obama's policies to win in a general election.
Speaking on MSNBC, Santorum directly tied Romney to the president’s
policies, in particular the healthcare reform
law.
“Mitt Romney is not the best choice to go up against Barack Obama on the
central issue of the day, which is government and taking away our
freedoms, our economic freedoms, and as we saw in the case of ObamaCare,
our First Amendment rights,” he said. “Unfortunately, Gov. Romney has
sided with the Obama administration on three of those most important
issues.”
This line of attack has become standard theme leveled against the former Massachusetts governor on the campaign trail.
Romney’s conservative critics also say that his nomination would weaken some of their most potent arguments against Obama.
