Paul and Romney have been personally friendly on the campaign trail, while Paul and Santorum have long been hostile toward each other. But Santorum has recently accused Paul of intentionally aiding Romney in exchange for a promise that his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), would be considered for the vice presidential nomination.
Paul pushed back hard Tuesday night, telling CNN that Santorum "dreamt that up" and is "an addict on conspiracies."
The ad takes on all of Paul's opponents, calling Santorum a "counterfeit conservative" and labeling Newt Gingrich a "serial hypocrite."
"One is a serial hypocrite who lobbied for Freddie Mac before the housing crisis and for the indiviual mandate before ObamaCare," the ad's narrator says as ominous music plays. "Another, a counterfeit conservative who opposes 'right to work,' massively increased spending and funded Planned Parenthood. Finally, a flip-flopper who has been on all sides, supported TARP bailouts and provided the blueprint for ObamaCare.Three men, one vision: More big government, more mandates, less freedom."
The ad's music then shifts to a more upbeat tone. "One man stands apart ready to deliver real change, voting against every tax increase and every unbalanced budget every time," the narrator says as Paul is shown. "A real plan to cut a trillion dollars year one and to balance the budget in three. Pro-life, pro-liberty, guided by faith and principle: Ron Paul, the one who will restore America now."
