Pro-Santorum super-PAC ad: Romney can't be trusted

By Daniel Strauss and Megan Wilson - 03/27/12 11:28 AM ET

The pro-Rick Santorum super-PAC, the Red, White and Blue Fund, is out with a new ad in Wisconsin charging that GOP rival Mitt Romney can't be trusted based on his record as Massachusetts governor.

"What kind of president would Mitt Romney be? Just look at his record as governor," the voice-over in the ad begins. It goes on to say that Romney raised taxes totaling in the hundreds of millions, left office with the state in deep debt, and passed healthcare reform legislation that "served as the blueprint for Obamacare."

The ad is part of a $304,000 ad blitz the super-PAC is making in Wisconsin. The ads are set to air on broadcast and cable television in Milwaukee and Green Bay.

Wisconsin's presidential primary will take place April 3.

Meanwhile, a pro-Romney super-PAC is also airing attack ads in Wisconsin. The Restore Our Future super-PAC hits Santorum on his economic record and highlights Santorum saying that he doesn't "care what the unemployment rate's going to be. It doesn't matter to me."

Santorum made those comments on the stump earlier this month, later clarifying that he meant to suggest that while unemployment was "important," it was just a symptom of larger problems in Washington.

"What I said was that the unemployment rate — it didn't matter what it was between now and election time, because the fundamental issue that's causing the unemployment, that's causing the economic distress in our country, is the fact that the government is imposing its will and mandating things on people and creating a yoke on top of businesses that makes it hard to employ," Santorum said.
