Former Republican presidential nominee Rick Perry said the country can look forward to international debacles and bankruptcy if Mitt Romney doesn’t unseat President Obama in the fall.
“Mitt – he’s going to be our nominee, we are going to be behind him and God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said Thursday on Fox News Channel’s Your World with Neil Cavuto.
“Four more years of Barack Obama, when you look at the debt that is on the future generations, when you look at what he is talking about doing from the standpoint of coming in and telling states how to run their business, I mean this isn’t even in the ballpark of close,” Perry continued. “Mitt Romney has to win this presidential election in November of 2012 or our country truly is going to be on the precipice of bankruptcy and international affairs that I will suggest to you none of us are going to like.”
Perry also compared Obama to former one-term Democratic President Jimmy Carter, who Republicans frequently attack as a historically weak president.
“I never thought there would be anybody that would make Jimmy Carter look good. Barack Obama is doing it,” Perry said.
The Texas governor entered the Republican presidential race last November and shot immediately to the top of the polls, but could never recover from an embarrassing debate gaffe in which he struggled for almost a minute to recall an item from his stump speech.
Perry pulled out of the race in January and endorsed Newt Gingrich, who officially ended his campaign on Wednesday. Perry has since come out in support of Romney.
