The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is out with a new ad slamming Democrat Ron Barber for supporting Democrats' push for cap-and-trade regulation of carbon emissions, seeking to tie him to President Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in the process.
"Washington is failing us. Arizona families are hurting. And Ron Barber will make it even worse," the ad's narrator says as pictures of Barber alternate with shots of Obama and Pelosi. "Ron Barber supports Obama's cap-and-trade energy tax that could raise gas prices by 27 percent ... Rubber stamp Ron Barber is helping Obama, but he's hurting Arizona."
Barber is running to replace his old boss, retired Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), in a Republican-leaning Tucson House district. He's been slow to embrace national party leaders — he initially wouldn't say if he planned to back Obama's reelection, and this weekend
refused to say whether he'd back Pelosi for Speaker.
Both parties have been investing heavily in the special election, which will take place June 12. The ad is part of a large six-figure ad buy from the NRCC.
