Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) launched a new campaign ad Tuesday touting his support for military families and veterans.
The ad is part of the Brown campaign's efforts to promote a group formed in March called "Veterans and Military Families for Sherrod Brown" made up of Ohio voters who support the senior senator's bid for reelection.
"Senator Sherrod Brown is fighting every day in the Senate for our veterans and military families and there’s no doubt he’s on the side of Ohio’s veterans and those who care about them," the co-chairmen of the group, Sam Kindred and Jeremy Miller, said in a statement.
"Now more than ever veterans across the state deserve a champion for veteran’s rights in the U.S. Senate and they have one in Sherrod Brown," they continued. "We must do all we can to ensure he can continue fighting for us in the years to come.”
The race for the Senate seat in swing-state Ohio is heating up between Brown and his opponent, state Treasurer Josh Mandel (R). Brown launched an attack ad blasting Mandel over alleged cronyism and lack of experience late last month.
Mandel, a Marine Corps veteran, has been on the air with ads highlighting his military experience in Iraq. The efforts by Brown to draw attention to his support from veterans reflect an attempt to undercut Mandel among voters concerned about the military and national security.
