Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.) is on the air with his first television ad of his reelection campaign, evoking his late mother in a positive spot describing his difficult childhood.
Fleischmann’s campaign said the ad would air on cable television and radio throughout the district.
“When I was nine years old, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. When I was 13 she passed away,” Fleischmann says in the ad. “It was very, very difficult, but I had my faith. We didn’t grow up with much, but both of my parents taught me early that if you worked hard and did the right thing, you could achieve the American Dream.”
Fleischmann’s district leans Republican, but his main obstacle to another term is the GOP primary, where polls show a difficult path ahead for the freshman. Challenging Fleischmann are Republicans Weston Wamp and Scottie Mayfield.
Wamp is the 25-year-old son of former Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.), who held the Chattanooga-area seat before Fleischmann.
