Outside group: Rehberg voted against funding to 'help wounded vets'

By Cameron Joseph - 06/26/12 08:45 AM ET

A pro-military Democratic outside group is out with a forceful new ad in Montana today, slamming Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) for voting against expanding funding for research for prosthetics for wounded servicemen.

"I served with the Montana National Guard in Iraq. I served and came home safely — over 1,000 who left limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan weren't so lucky. But Congressman Rehberg voted against additional funding for prosthetic research," says Jim Kearns, an Iraq war veteran, in the ad. "Millionaire Rehberg voted to give himself a pay raise five times but voted against additional funding to help wounded vets. Now Congressman Rehberg wants us to call him senator? No way."

The ad has $100,000 behind it and will run in most Montana markets.

There has been a glut of advertising from outside groups targeting the race between Rehberg and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), which The Hill rates a "toss-up." But this ad stands out as a particularly withering attack that could stick with voters.
