Nebraska Dems label GOP candidate a 'welfare rancher'

An on-screen brand then labels the Republican hopeful a "welfare rancher."

Republicans have argued that Fischer's subsidized grazing leases are offset by the costs involved in obtaining federal grazing permits and abiding by additional regulations, and argue the program as a whole saves the government money by lowering land maintenance costs, according to the Associated Press.

But the ad, which will air statewide on television, is an effort for Democrats to claw back into a Senate race to replace retiring Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) in the fall. Former Sen. Bob Kerry (D-Neb.), her Democratic opponent, has significantly trailed Fischer since she clinched the GOP nomination in May.
