Beyoncé shares letter to Michelle Obama in campaign video

By Geneva Sands - 07/16/12 12:31 PM ET

Beyoncé is once again lending her star power to the Obama team.

The Grammy Award-winning megastar shared in a campaign video published Monday a letter she wrote earlier this year thanking Michelle Obama for her work as first lady.

"I wrote a letter to the first lady because I wanted her to know that I am very grateful for everything she is doing for our country and also for women around the world," said Beyoncé in the video.

Beyoncé praised Obama as the "ultimate example of a truly strong African American woman" in a handwritten note that she posted to her Tumblr blog in April.

"She is a caring mother. She is a loving wife, while at the same time she is the first lady. No matter the pressure and the stress of being under the microscope, she's humble, loving and sincere," Beyoncé said.

The music superstar, who filmed a music video last year as part of Obama's "Let's Move" campaign, gushed that she is in "awe" of the first lady.

"Every time I see her she inspires me, she empowers me, she encourages me to live a healthy lifestyle, to support our veterans," Beyoncé said.

Beyoncé said that as a new mom — to Blue Ivy, with husband Jay-Z — she is "proud" to have her daughter grow up in a world with Michelle Obama as a role model.

The inspiration seems to be mutual.

The first lady told People magazine in May that if she could be anyone else, she would be none other than Beyoncé.

"It looks like musicians just have the most fun," Obama said.

Obama tweeted out the video to her followers Monday, along with a compliment to her musical inspiration.

"From one leading lady to another—here's @Beyonce on the First Lady," wrote Obama.
