RNC Web ad mocks Obama on jobs council

By Justin Sink - 07/19/12 08:02 AM ET

The Republican National Committee (RNC) released a new Web ad Thursday bashing President Obama over reports he has not held a meeting of his jobs council in the past six months, echoing a new attack from Mitt Romney on the issue.

The video mocks White House press secretary Jay Carney's comments Wednesday that Obama has "a lot on his plate."

Cutting to a picture of the president with his feet on his desk, it noted Obama has taken 10 golf trips and held 106 fundraisers over the past six months.

The ad concludes with an ornate dinner plate garnished with hundred-dollar bills and golf balls bearing the presidential seal.

"Millions of Americans are struggling to get by in President Obama's dismal economy, and Obama has 'too much on his plate' to focus on jobs?" said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus in a statement. "What sand trap is he stuck in?

"The reality is President Obama would rather spend time raising money to save his own job than work to create jobs for middle-class Americans. He's out hitting golf balls because he's out of ideas and out of touch with America's economic problems."

The White House said Thursday that the president "continues to solicit and receive advice from numerous folks outside the administration about the economy, about ideas he can act on with Congress or administratively to help the economy grow and help it create jobs."

"Look, the president solicits and receives input and advice from members of his Jobs Council and others about economic initiatives all the time," Carney said in his extended remarks.

But Republicans clearly sense a vulnerability. During a town-hall meeting Wednesday, Mitt Romney likewise pounced on the report.

"You know what he’s been doing over the last six months? In the last six months, he has held 100 fundraisers. And guess how many meetings he’s had with his Jobs Council? None. Zero. Zero, in the last six months," Romney told a crowd of supporters in Ohio. "So it makes it very clear where his priorities are. His priority is not creating jobs for you, his priority is trying to keep his own job, and that's why he's going to lose it.”
