Majority PAC and Patriot Majority USA, two Democratic super-PACs focused on the Senate, are launching a $1.6 million, four-state ad campaign that includes a major $500,000 investment in Indiana, the latest sign that race is heating up.
In an ad targeted at seniors in the older state, the groups attack Indiana state Treasurer Richard Mourdock (R) over his support for cuts to entitlement programs. Polls show a tight race in the Republican-leaning state.
"They fought for us, paid into Social Security and Medicare, every paycheck — they earned it," the ad's narrator says as World War II-era footage plays. "But Richard Mourdock thinks Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional. Mourdock wants to cut Social Security benefits and raise the retirement age. Mourdock even said a plan that essentially ends Medicare doesn’t go far enough. The Mourdock way: the wrong way for Indiana."
The groups are also hitting the air in Montana, North Dakota and Ohio. In Montana, Patriot Majority accuses Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) of voting to privatize Social Security, while Majority PAC attacks Rep. Rick Berg (R-N.D.) on Medicare and Social Security and blasts Ohio state Treasurer Josh Mandel (R) for hiring his "college buddies and political cronies" and opposing the auto bailout.
