Sen. Rubio: Romney will win Florida

By Daniel Strauss - 08/29/12 07:39 AM ET

Mitt Romney will win Florida once Americans see the acute policy differences between the former Massachusetts governor and President Obama on the economy, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said.

"Absolutely, I expect he will. I think once the argument is clear about the differences between Republicans and Democrats on the economy, I expect he'll win Florida," Rubio said Wednesday in an interview on NBC's "Today Show."

"Plus, the folks that have been visiting Florida this week have been leaving great tips. They're great tippers," Rubio said, chuckling.

Republicans have shown a strong interest in the state not only through placing the Republican National Convention there but also by using Rubio, a top Romney surrogate, often on the campaign trail.

Recent polling has shown Obama with about a 4 percentage point lead over Romney in the crucial battleground state. That same poll, conducted by CNN/Time/ORC, found that Florida voters 50 and older are almost perfectly split: Forty-nine percent said they would vote for Romney, while 45 percent said they would vote for Obama.
