House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) found Ann Romney's speech at the Republican National Convention particularly moving.
In an interview with Fox News the top House Republican said in response to a question about getting visibly "emotional" that he was a "mess" during Romney's speech a night earlier.
"You should have seen me last night watching Ann Romney give the speech," Boehner told Fox New's Bret Baier on Wednesday. "I was a mess."
Boehner's comments suggest he may have teared up during Ann Romney's speech in which the former Massachusetts governor's wife described her experience as Mitt Romney's wife and the mother of their children. Boehner, in past interviews, has visibly welled up.
In the same Fox News interview, the House Speaker also predicted that Congress would come to an agreement that would avoid impending defense spending cuts and tax hikes but only if, Boehner said, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) would stop stalling.
"I think it has to get resolved. I think letting the tax rates go up will be a disaster for our economy," Boehner said. "Letting the sequester go into effect will weaken our national defense and hollow out our military. It's totally unacceptable. But the — the frustration for me and my members is that we've done our work and we watch Harry Reid and the Senate Democrats do nothing. It's a — it's very frustrating."
